Scholar Description
I graduated with a BA in Interdisciplinary Science and Global Studies and two minors in Ethnicity + Race and Fine Arts. As an undergraduate, I’ve participated in public health and biological research on: accessibility of HIV treatment and education for LGBTQ adolescents at Public Health Solutions, a public health nonprofit organization; researched therapeutic antibodies for vaccine development against dengue virus as an REU scholar at the Wadsworth Center, research-intensive public health laboratory of the New York State Department of Health; participated as a student laboratory assistant in our open Science, Art + Design lab workshops that included bioplastics, biomimicry, and bacterial pigmenting for fabric dying; and purifying proteins from segmented filamentous bacteria of mice gut microbiome in an independent study on protein purification at Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. My undergraduate coursework focused on the public health of marginalized communities at the intersection of biology and social determinants of health. I am interested in the catalytic mechanisms of cellular communication in immunological responses or molecular and cell biology to understand how to treat disadvantaged communities while ethically contributing to biomedical research. I am first generation Chicano with the hope of becoming a physician-scientist. (pronouns: they/them). My current research interests include Immunology, Molecular and Cell Biology
